    One of the causes of decreasing HGH levels with age is the decrease in the output of the stimulatory hormone GHRH and an increase in the output of the inhibitory hormone somatostatin. This shift in the ratio of inhibition to stimulation moves in the favour of inhibition as we age. There are a number of reasons for this:

    1. It has been shown that emotions, stress, and trauma can all affect the hypothalamus’s ability to control growth hormone. These factors may cause an increase in the levels of somatostatin and decrease the pituitary’s ability to be stimulated by GHRH. One of the main causes of this may be a decrease in the stimulation of a nutrient called choline. Let it be known here that one of the most potent stimulators of HGH production is a choline precursor called AlphaGlycerylphosphorylcholine.

    2. High blood sugar may also be another cause for falling HGH levels. High blood sugar levels increase somatostatin levels, thus inhibiting HGH synthesis and release.

    3. Another cause of falling HGH levels is stress which has a major impact on the adrenal glands which produce a hormone called cortisol, which is one of the main glucocorticoid hormones. Normal levels of this hormone enhance the effects of growth hormone. However, excess glucocorticoid levels are released in response to the increasing stress levels. The excess of this hormone has an inhibitory effect on HGH due to stimulation of somatostatin release from the hypothalamus.
