How DHEA can reverse brain aging?

DHEA has been dubbed as the ‘mother of all hormones’. DHEA is the most abundant steroid in the human body and is involved in the manufacture of testosterone, estrogen, progesterone and corticosterone. The decline of DHEA with age parallels that of HGH.
DHEA is also vital for the functioning of the brain. Animal studies have also shown that DHEA supplementation helps to reduce inflammatory processes in the brain. This finding implies that the hormone may have a role in protecting against neurological diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease, whose pathology has been linked to chronic inflammation.
Researchers at the University of Pavia (Italy) tested their hypothesis that brain aging in humans causes changes in the mechanisms involving the activity of the calcium-phospho-lipid-dependent protein kinase C (PKC). PKC-dependent pathways become defective in aging due to reduced levels of the major anchoring protein RACK-1. The team found that DHEA supplementation reversed brain aging by three main mechanisms:
* Regulating neuronal function by influencing transmitter-gated ion channels and gene expression.
* Modulating age-associated impairment of PKC signal transduction.
* Reverting the alteration of RACK-1 anchoring protein expression.
