Melatonin helps combat the damage done by free radicals
Guide, HgH, Natural, News, Review, Tips
Much of the damage that we attribute to aging is the cumulative effect of bombardment by free radicals. One of the key ways that melatonin helps combat cancer is its ability to at as an intercellular antioxidant, preventing and reducing the damage done to the body by these free radicals.
Melatonin is perhaps the only antioxidant that is capable of penetrating every cell of the body. Also, it is the most active and effective of all naturally occurring antioxidant compounds, substances that defuse free radicals, unstable, destructive oxygen molecules. For example, glutathione is a valuable scavenger for free radicals that travel between cells- yet melatonin proved to be five times more effective. Vitamin E is used to combat oxidants within cells- yet melatonin seems to be at least twice as effective.
Furthermore, most antioxidants work only on one part of the cell, either the lipid-rich membrane or the water-based cell itself. Melatonin is soluble to both fats and water, making ti a wider-ranging antioxidant than its vitamin and mineral counterparts..
