Some facts you should know before you start melatonin supplementation
Guide, HgH, News, Review, Tips
The first thing to remember before beginning melatonin supplementation is that sometimes less is more. Although melatonin has an extremely important role in the body, it is present only in tiny amounts, even when we are at our youthful peak. Mega doses of melatonin won’t necessarily help us maximize our energy or our health. Rather, we should try to approximate the levels of melatonin that our youthful bodies once knew.
Again, children SHOULD NOT be given melatonin. The highest levels of melatonin in the body occur during childhood. So, no supplementation is necessary. People who have serious illnesses such as autoimmune disorder, multiple sclerosis, leukemia or lymphoma should consult a physician who is familiar with melatonin before usage. Immune suppressing drugs such as cortisol and cyclosporine may react adversely with melatonin as may antidepressants. People, who have diabetes, experience major depression, have severe allergies, or have a hormonal imbalance should also take caution.
Finally, pregnant or nursing women should avoid melatonin supplementation. They are already transmitting melatonin to the fetus or infant via the placenta or the breast milk. It is unknown whether increasing melatonin levels adversely affect the child.
It is to be remembered that immense popularity of melatonin has brought with it unbalanced and potentially dangerous views on the hormone. The fact of the matter is that there are no conclusive proofs that guarantee any positive long-term results. Its only proven safe use is as a short-term remedy for jet lag and sleep disorders.
